Connect the whole journey.

For the SOYGEN Drone Data Portal, the work starts when a pilot uploads a flight. The portal dispatches it for image processing, receives the stitched imagery, heat maps and reports, and notifies the people with an interest in that flight. Those steps belong to one workflow, rather than a series of manual handoffs.

Shared infrastructure. Clear boundaries.

Ten universities use the platform. Purdue University administers the network, with visibility across participating universities’ data and control over invitations and permissions. Each participating program accesses its own designated data. Collaboration and access control are designed together.

Design around the research.

Flight Detail screens and report layouts were worked through in wireframes and reviewed with researchers before the build. In the production portal, the outputs sit alongside the flight that produced them, giving users one place to reach their research data.

The useful unit is not the uploaded image. It is the complete journey from flight to finding.
